Understanding Licence Requirements for Pre-CBT Motorcycle Training

Driving License for Pre-CBT taster session

Before you embark on your motorcycle training journey, it’s important to understand the licence requirements.

While you do not need to physically bring your driving license to your Pre-CBT session at RMT Motorcycle Training, having a provisional license is crucial.

What Licence Do You Need?

To participate in any on-road motorcycle training, including our Pre-CBT course, you must have at least a provisional driving licence.

If you already possess a full car licence, you automatically have the provisional entitlement to ride motorcycles (category A).

This means you are already a step ahead in beginning your motorcycle training.

Applying for a Provisional Licence

If you do not have a driving licence, you’ll need to apply for a provisional license. It’s important to specify that you require category A entitlement, which covers motorcycles

Applying for this licence is straightforward and can be done online or by post through the DVLA.

Having this licence not only meets legal requirements but also ensures you’re prepared to progress to full motorcycle training after your Pre-CBT course.

Why the Provisional Licence Matters

Holding a provisional licence is not just a legal formality; it’s the first step in your training journey.

It demonstrates your eligibility to train on public roads under the supervision of our qualified instructors.

The Pre-CBT course at RMT is designed to give you foundational skills in a low-pressure environment, preparing you for the full CBT course.

Legal requirements

While you don’t need to bring your license with you to the Pre-CBT session, having at least a provisional motorcycle licence is essential for legally riding on the road, even during training.

If you’re planning to take your motorcycle training seriously, ensuring you have the right licence category from the start will smooth your path to riding success.
