Course Overview

The Mod 2 Test is an on-road assessment of your ability to complete a series of basic road exercises to demonstrate you’re a competent rider and will be able to ride safely unaccompanied.

The Mod 2 test is conducted on public roads with a DVSA examiner assessing your riding ability. This test includes an independent riding segment, reinforcing your ability to ride safely without direct guidance.

The bespoke training plan we have in place for your success allows you to go to the motorcycle test confident and fully prepared. We ensure you have the correct amount of training to ensure you are put through as many riding situations as possible.

What if I fail the motorcycle theory test?

Our Mod 2 Test Day Approach

We believe test days are for focusing on the task in hand, not last minute training! Imagine having a bad session prior to the test, you’d hardly be mentally prepared.

That's why your test day runs like a swiss watch, the day doesn’t miss a beat and you tread the same successful test preparation that we’ve used over the last thirty years.

The Mod 2 test is conducted at a local test centre, we predominantly use Redditch test centre but we can use alternative test centres if required.

On The Day Of The Mod 2 Motorcycle Test

Like the Mod 1 test, we avoid last minute training on test day. You’ll arrive at our office, where the instructor will check your documents, relax you and discuss how the day will be conducted. You’ll then be taken for a warm up ride, where you can relax and become comfortable on the bike.

The Instructor will give you an in-depth demonstration and commentary ride to put you in the right frame of mind. This includes different situations you may encounter during the actual test.

Expect to spend 3-4 hours with us on your test day, this includes the pre-test preparation and the test itself.

Our approach has led to a first-time pass rate of around 90%, a testament to our thorough training process.

Key Exercises In The Mod 2 Test

The test starts with a documents check followed by an eyesight check and then the motorcycle safety, maintenance and pillion passenger questions.

After this you will commence a 45-minute (approximately) road test covering various scenarios. These will include varying speed limits, different types of junctions, negotiating roundabouts and dealing with various traffic situations.

Your training will focus on ensuring you're adept in areas critical for test success:

  • Different speed limits from 30-70 mph
  • You road positioning
  • Hill and angle starts
  • Navigating dual carriageways and overtaking
  • Country lanes if applicable to the test
  • Maintaining safe separation distances
  • Independant ride

After the test has concluded, you will be given a debrief and a pass certificate will be issued on successful completion. This will mean you have a full motorcycle licence, the pass certificate acts as your proof of pass until your licence arrives by post.

NB. Allow the examiner to keep your old licence and opt for the DVLA to issue your full motorcycle licence automatically. There is no charge for this service.

NB. Also take a picture of both sides of your licence prior to the test taking place. This is so that you have proof of licence category in case any are omitted during the process.
