Instructor Training Information

Why This Programme Exists

Most instructors fail assessments, struggle with learners needs, and get frustrated with customers during training:

It’s because you aren’t taught how to teach properly:

You learned through:

  • Copying another instructor
  • Picking up habits from watching poor training techniques
  • Being told “just have a go, you’ll be fine”

But the DVSA expects:

  • Professional teaching methods
  • Adult-education understanding
  • Structured, safe, consistent lesson delivery
  • Clear communication and proper feedback
  • Client-centred learning, not instructor-centred instruction

Our 2 phase programme fixes all of that, it stops bad habits setting in.

It elevates you from being a hobbyist instructor, to being a professional educator who understands the teaching framework, principles and professional delivery.

Who This Programme Is For

This course is the ideal development path for:

✓ ATB owners who want to Down-Train their own staff properly
✓ Instructors who want to train other Instructors
✓ Instructors who are serious about being professional trainers
✓ New instructors wanting a structured, professional route
✓ Down-trained instructors who want to perform to a higher standard
✓ Instructors who have a Standard Check looming
✓ Trainers who have not been taught education principles
✓ Trainers who need to prepare properly for CBT or DAS assessments
✓ Instructors who want clarity and proper teaching skills
✓ Instructors who want a formal qualification in teaching
✓ Trainers who want to future-proof themselves as DVSA standards rise

This programme is designed for trainers and ATB owners alike, it gives the foundational framework for delivering professional motorcycle training. Once you understand how to teach, it makes it easier to train learner riders properly.

Why Instructors Struggle

Most instructors are not taught:

  • ❌ How to apply adult-education methods
  • ❌ How to structure a professional lesson plan
  • ❌ How to give meaningful feedback
  • ❌ How to plan CBT & DAS to DVSA standards
  • ❌ How to manage risk and progression properly
  • ❌ How to use client-centred learning
  • ❌ How to teach with clarity and respect
  • ❌ How to Down-Train other instructors

Instructors are simply told: “Watch me for a few days/weeks and you’ll be able to do it.”

This is the industry norm and is well past its sell by date. This programme finally replaces watch and copy imitation, with proper structured teacher education.

Cost For Motorcycle Training

How Our 2-Phase Course is Delivered

This is the first complete educational route for motorcycle instructors. This surpasses quick tempo training to get you through a process quickly, our course is designed to educate you properly, it gives you the complete toolbox.

PHASE 1 - Adult Education & Teaching Skills

(3 Days external coaching – The theory of teaching)

Before you learn WHAT to teach, you must learn HOW to teach.

You’ll develop:

  • Adult-learning principles and frameworks
  • Teaching behaviours instructors are judged on
  • Effective communication & coaching skills
  • Lesson planning and structured delivery
  • Confidence in managing learners with clarity
  • Understanding how professional educators think and operate

This gives you the educational backbone every instructor needs but rarely receives.

*This is a three day process over a period of time (to suit you) where you learn teaching principles and techniques. You will produce some written assignments during this process.

PHASE 2 - Instructor Training using CBT Lessons

(6 Days on-site – Practical coaching, guidance and support)

Apply your new educational skills directly to motorcycle training. If you have knowledge in the CBT course, we will use the CBT syllabus to hone your teaching skills.

You’ll learn:

  • CBT structured lesson delivery
  • Classroom, on-site, and on-road teaching methods
  • How to use Training Diagrams and visual aids properly
  • Structured EDIP training techniques
  • Professional behaviours towards learner riders
  • How to teach safely, consistently, and confidently

This gives you the skills you need to turn theory into practice.

*During this phase you’ll undergo teacher training and practical delivery to enhance your skills. We also help you with any outstanding assignments that need to be submitted. This course includes assessed practical teaching skills to secure your adult education award.

FAQs

Can I do only Phase 1 or Phase 2?

No. This is a structured, progressive programme. Both phases are required to gain your Adult Education Award Level 3 certificate.

But they are done separately, Phase 1 must be done before Phase 2.

Does this replace the CBT Foundation Course?

No it doesn’t replace the Foundation Course, it is a completely separate course.

Our advice to enrol on this course is to have previous practical experience delivering the CBT to learner riders.

You should have completed Element E and understand what satisfactory looks like to issue a CBT certificate to new riders.

Do I get a teaching qualification?

With a satisfactory completion of all the teaching elements and 3 assignments, you will gain a Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

This is the start of your pathway to higher education.

Who is this programme best suited for?

This course is the correct path for anyone who wants to become a professional instructor, not a down-trained imitator.

Having formal qualifications is expected by learner riders who are starting to question who is training them.

Further to this, the DVSA are looking more closely at education standards and have elevated the criteria. This is a good thing and can only be good for the training industry as a whole.

Is this really necessary?

In short – YES.

The DVSA have been raising the standards of Standards Checks since 2021, they are more demanding and have an assessment framework that aligns with adult education.

Those without educational training will start to fall behind, Earned Recognition is coming and this ensures trainers who are qualified score higher.

Are You Ready To Take The Next Step?

The industry needs better instructors.

The DVSA is raising the bar. Don’t be one of the hundreds of low level instructors losing their job.

This programme prepares you to meet and exceed what is expected of a modern Motorcycle Instructor.
