Journey into Riding

My relationship with motorcycles began in 1985, initially as a practical solution for commuting. What started with an L plate and a basic Yamaha RS100 evolved into a passionate journey through various bikes, each adding a chapter to my life story.

From battling the elements on the road to nurturing my skills in unfavourable weather, motorcycling became a part of my life, not just a hobby but a series of lessons learned on two wheels.

Career and Policing

In 2001, I embarked on a career in policing, driven by a hope to join the traffic unit and combine my love for riding with my professional life.

My police career transitioned from a response officer to a tutor constable and then to personal safety training, which I found immensely fulfilling. By 2007, I had achieved my goal of moving into the traffic unit, marking the beginning of an intensive journey into advanced motorcycling and driver training.

Advanced Training and Expertise

The real transformation in my riding came when I undertook the police motorcycle course in 2010, an experience that not only enhanced my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of road safety.

My advanced training didn’t stop at just riding; it encompassed tactical pursuit and family liaison focused on serious road traffic collisions, bringing a sobering perspective to the impacts of road safety.

Sharing Skills and Making a Difference

One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the opportunity to share my skills with the public through initiatives like BikeSafe.

This role allows me to demonstrate how dedicated training can elevate an average rider to levels of high competence.

It’s about transferring my knowledge and experiences (mistakes included), to help others grow and achieve their best on the road.

Personal Philosophy and Achievements

As a dedicated family man and a passionate rider, I believe in the power of education and training to transform lives.

My numerous awards and recognitions, including commendations for bravery and community service, underline a career dedicated to service and safety. This also extends to my commitment to road safety for riders.

However, it’s the personal feedback and personal commendation from Wing Commander “Harry Palmer” (RAF Helicopter Trainer) who attended a Bike Safe course, that truly underscores the impact of my work.
