Our unique approach to test practice

We are one of the only training schools in the area to offer you the unique experience of practising manoeuvres on the actual test site for your Module One test.

The pressure is taken off you when you choose to train with us, your test bookings are done for you. All you need to do is turn up and enjoy the experience.

To help you prepare and pass the tests first time, we have prepared a comprehensive online training video resource. You get full access to the Founder Membership when you book training with us, it gives you lots of advice and tips on how to pass both tests with ease.

If you want to pass your motorcycle tests and ride without L Plates on either a 125cc motorcycle (A1), a medium powered motorbike (A2), or a larger machine doing the Direct Access Scheme (DAS – A). You will need to take and pass both the Module One and Module Two motorcycle tests.

The Module One Motorcycle Test

The Mod 1 Motorcycle Test is conducted at the Multi-Purpose Test Centre (MPTC), also called the Motorcycle Manoeuvring Area (MMA) located in Garretts Green. It is an off-road test whereby you have to successfully complete a series of manoeuvres.

Unlike many other motorcycle training schools, we have made special arrangements with the DVSA by booking training sessions on the test site at weekends. It is booked for you to use and practise your Module One test manoeuvres.

This means that you are comfortable with the layout of the course, confident with the procedure and you are fully prepared before you take the Module One motorcycle test.

The motorcycle test takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and consists of the following manoeuvres:

  • On and off the stand
  • Wheel the machine
  • Slalom
  • Figure of eight
  • Slow ride
  • U-turn
  • Ride a Left or Right hand circuit
  • Controlled stop
  • 50 kph / 32 mph emergency stop exercise
  • 50 kph / 32 mph avoidance exercise

The Module One Motorcycle Test - on the day

We believe that test days should not involve training but merely to get you into the right frame of mind to concentrate on the test in hand. Some organisations give you a test in the afternoon of a full day training and charge you for the privilege. Our policy is to ensure you are test ready, relaxed and in the correct frame of mind on the big day.

You will turn up at the office on test day, the instructor will check your documents to ensure you have them all and then take you for a ride to the test centre. On the way you will do some warm up exercises in the car park, to get the feel for the bike again (if you’ve had some time off) and ensure you are ready for the manoeuvres. Then you will have some practice time for the higher speed exercises prior to the test.

You will be taken to test centre and introduced to the examiner, ready and prepared for a first time pass. The time frame you can expect to be with us will be between 3-4 hours. Our first time pass rate is above 90% because of your thorough training program.

How To Prepare For Your Mod 1 Motorcycle Test

We recommend that you use Motorcycle Riders Hub which is our Online Training Resource, use it in conjunction with practical training as part of your learning strategy.

By using the online learning  products you will develop a better understanding and have a greater knowledge for your motorcycle tests. This means that during your training and especially on test, you will be ready and much better prepared.

Online Training resources include:

CBT Course to help you learn to ride a motorcycle

Mod 1 Course to help you navigate each exercise

Mod 2 Course giving you an insight to pass the road based test

Module Two Motorcycle Test

The Mod 2 Motorcycle Test is conducted on the public road. It takes the form of a pursuit test with a DVSA examiner following you, watching and assessing your riding ability. It also includes an independent ride where you will asked to ride the motorcycle without any directional instruction for a short period of time, known as the Independent Ride.

With a vast amount of experience and years of testing, the RMT Motorcycle Training instructors are aware of the diverse road layouts commonly used on test routes that are taken from Redditch and the Garretts Green test centre in Birmingham. This means we can fully train you and prepare you on the roads that are typically used under test conditions.

Module Two Motorcycle training

The Mod 2 Motorcycle test lasts for approximately 45 minutes. It commences with an eyesight check followed by questions about carrying a pillion passenger and maintenance of your motorcycle.

On your road test, the examiner will be assessing your riding on areas such as:

  • Varying speed limits
  • Junctions & roundabouts
  • Road positioning
  • Hill start and angle start
  • Dealing with other traffic
  • Dual carriageways
  • Separation distance
  • Country lanes (where applicable)

We use Redditch and Birmingham as our preferred motorcycle test centres for Module Two tests. But if you require an alternative venue, we can accommodate your wishes by taking you to a different test centre location.

The Module Two Motorcycle Test - On the day

As per Mod 1 Motorcycle Test, we do not believe in last minute training on test days. Your test day should be relaxed and you should be calm enough to take the test. You should not have a mass of last minute information to digest because it was missed during your pre test training.

Again, you will turn up at the office on the day of your Module 2 Motorcycle Test. Our instructor will check your documents to ensure you have them all and then take you for a ride to the test centre. On the way there, you will follow the instructor while they give you a commentary ride to settle down any last minute nerves and ensure your mind in on the job in hand.

You will be taken to test and introduced to the examiner, ready and prepared for a first time pass. The time frame you can expect to be with us will be between 3-4 hours.
